Face Lift Q & A

How can a face-lift improve my appearance?

A face-lift corrects the issues that happen with aging skin. Over the years, your skin grows thinner and less elastic. You also produce less collagen, leaving you with less underlying skin support. These things come together to cause fine lines that can slowly become deep, set-in wrinkles and facial folds.

Face-lift surgery relieves these problems in the following ways.

  • Removing excess skin
  • Smoothing wrinkles and folds
  • Sculpting facial fat
  • Replacing lost volume
  • Tightening drooping jowls
  • Removing excess fat in your chin area

Face-lift surgery treats aging in the midface area, but doesn't address the eye, brow, or neck areas. If you're unhappy with bags under your eyes, loose neck skin, or forehead wrinkles, you can plan another surgery simultaneously with your face-lift.

How does a face-lift work?

During a face-lift, your surgeon repairs and tightens the muscles that act as skin support. Then, they trim away drooping skin, suction away excess fat, and carefully reposition your skin. Finally, your surgeon closes the incisions to complete the procedure.

The exact procedure during a face-lift depends on your specific goals. If you're mainly concerned about one particular area, like your jaw or jowls, a one-hour or mini-lift that makes smaller corrections and requires only local anesthesia could be a good option.

Another face-lift option is the no-incision nonsurgical face-lift, which uses neuromodulators and dermal fillers such as Botox® and Juvéderm® to reshape your face.

What happens after my face-lift?

After your face-lift, you can expect to have some swelling, bruising, and inflammation. Usually, this fades away over a period of about 10-14 days. The Pacific Coast Center for Oral, Facial & Cosmetic Surgery provides you with specific instructions to follow during your recovery. Usually, this includes avoiding strenuous exercise, staying out of the sun, and using a very gentle facial cleanser as you heal.

Most patients are ready to return to work within around two weeks, but recovery can be much faster with a one-hour face-lift, mini-lift, or nonsurgical face-lift.

After a face-lift at The Pacific Coast Center for Oral, Facial & Cosmetic Surgery, everyone may ask how you found the fountain of youth. To learn more about how a face-lift can help you look fresher and younger, call the office or book online now.
