Recombinant Human Bone Morphogenic Proteins (Rhbmp-2)
Our body communicates with various chemical growth factors, turning on specific cells for repair and healing. The growth factor rhBMP-2, also known, as BMP is a new technology that utilizes specific laboratory produced growth factors to actually induce new bone formation. BMP is one of many Tissue Growth Factors (TGFs). This technology has been used for a number of years now by both spine surgeons and oral & maxillofacial surgeons, thus replacing the need for traditional autogenous bone. When used with human stem cells, large areas of bone can be regenerated.
Autogenous Stem Cell Aspirates
The use of mature human stem cells will in many ways perhaps allow the regeneration of organs and other major anatomic structures in the very near future. We at The Pacific Coast Center for Oral, Facial and Cosmetic Surgery can use mature stem cells easily harvested from the hip in various bone grafting situations. These harvested mature stem cells are then mixed with bone graft aggregates to augment their turn over and maturation into usable bone.
We incorporate the use of rhBMP-2 and mature human stem cells in selected graft cases. All of these new regenerative procedures are selected for use on a case-by-case basis to promote the best outcome for our patients.
