Breathe Easier With a Rhinoplasty

If you find the shape or prominence of your nose displeasing or out of balance with the rest of your features, you might opt for a nose job to feel more confident and attractive. Aesthetics aren’t the only reason to choose rhinoplasty, however. This surgical procedure can help you breathe more easily and achieve better overall health.

At Southern California Center for Surgical Arts, Dr. Husam Elias may suggest rhinoplasty for medical reasons. In these cases, when it is performed for a valid and diagnosable condition, insurance may even cover some or all of your costs.

If you suffer frequent sinus infections or have seemingly constant stuffiness, then rhinoplasty may help you breathe better.

About rhinoplasty

During a nose job, which is also called rhinoplasty, Dr. Elias can reshape your nose and nostrils, thus enhancing their overall look and function.

Rhinoplasty may be performed for cosmetic issues, such as reducing a nasal hump, softening a large tip, or correcting asymmetries. Rhinoplasty can also align a crooked nose that’s been present from birth or caused by a facial injury.

Rhinoplasty may also be performed for medical reasons. If you do undergo medically necessary rhinoplasty, Dr. Elias can usually make changes to your nose’s appearance as he improves its function.

Nearly 210,000 rhinoplasties are performed each year, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the procedure is among the most common plastic surgeries performed in the United States.

Rhinoplasty can fix a deviated septum

A rhinoplasty can reshape your nose in a way that helps you breathe better. In the case of a deviated septum, for example, it can be difficult for you to breathe through the nose. Nose surgery to correct a deviated septum is called a septoplasty.

The septum is the center cartilage of your nose, and when it deviates from center, you suffer a number of breathing and sinus difficulties. Some people have a deviated septum since birth and others suffer trauma that damages the septum.

A deviated septum can lead to a variety of nasal issues. It may lead to recurring sinus infections that cause stuffiness and make it hard to breathe. These infections can also cause sinus pain and tenderness, fatigue, and headaches.

A person with a deviated septum may also snore and have sleep apnea, which makes a good night of sleep difficult to achieve. Sometimes a deviated septum makes it hard to breathe during exercise, too.

The procedure can correct inflammation

Long-standing allergies can cause breathing difficulty due to the chronic inflammation in your nasal passages. Dr. Elias may recommend rhinoplasty to widen the nasal structures within your nose so you have the ability to take fuller, more complete breaths – even if inflammation persists.

Some people develop polyps (small non-cancerous growths) due to asthma, drug sensitivities, allergies, or some autoimmune disorders. Polyps interfere with your nasal function but can be removed during rhinoplasty so smooth, full breathing is restored.

Rhinoplasty is customized to your breathing problem

Sometimes rhinoplasty is needed for a medical problem that also causes cosmetic problems with the nose. For example, someone may have a severe septal deviation that causes additional structural issues with the nose. Having a septoplasty realigns the septum to address breathing problems, while rhinoplasty corrects any outward skewing of the nose.

No matter the issue, Dr. Elias is skilled at providing proper correction of both your breathing and your nasal appearance.

How Are Mini Dental Implants Different?

Dental implants are a functional and aesthetic way to replace missing teeth. Not everyone is a candidate for this restoration due to lacking bone mass in the jaw or concerns about invasive surgery. Mini dental implants are an alternative.
