Pre-operative Instructions for Patients Undergoing Intravenous Anesthesia for Routine Procedures
- You should not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for eight (8) hours prior to the appointment. This can be reduced to 6 hours for children under 10 years old.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, and be able to drive the patient home.
- The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 12 hours following the anesthesia experience.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow, and low-heeled shoes. Contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures may be removed at the time of surgery.
Please take all prescription medications as directed. For your convenience, The Pacific Coast Center for Oral & Facial Surgery has medications available for purchase in our office at a nominal charge.
Women please note: Some antibiotics may interfere with the effectiveness of your birth control pills. Please check with your pharmacist and consider alternative barrier methods during the course of your antibiotics.
